Seeking approval

We are seemingly wired to seek approval as human beings. Right from an early age, quite innocently and lovingly our parents and peers boost us up repeatabley. It makes us feel better about ourselves and gives us confidence to carry on. Even if it is short lived.

We are always looking to be noticed for our efforts and diligence or even just good luck. It makes us feel like we matter. That we are being appreciated or just being seen.

Quite often folk get caught up in the status criteria where if you look a certain way, dress in certain labels, own a certain car or live in a  specific area you must be doing something right.

But there is always a but isn't there? Comparison is the thief of joy isn't it? This is all very well but its not realistic. If that is your main focus you really are missing the point.

Are we doing ourselves any favours by looking for the next best thing instead of making the most of what we actually have and the things we are actually good at.

We may tell our sons they are fab at football even when they fall over more times than they actually kick the ball. But the point is they need to get up! They need to play the game not just perform.

Don't refrain from being honest just because it may not be what they want to hear. The truth is nothing will change or improve if you are happy to accept what society expects from you.

Make your own mark and don't feel less of a person because your life isn't picture perfect. Don't think you don't measure up because others don't give you any credit or you feel overlooked.

Don't rely on others to make you feel better about yourself.
Give yourself the pat on the back. You know, and that's all that matters!

You don't need anyones affection or recognition to be good enough.
So don't listen to self doubts. Don't trade your authenticity for approval. Don't get caught up in comparison.

Don't adapt to the energy in the room. Be the energy in the room!

You can make and be the difference!
