Wise or Otherwise

We are often reminded that it is never too late to learn something new! "Don't let age stop you", they say! When we look at babies and how much they achieve with very limited understanding, do we in fact over complicate things??

We all appreciate that experience is the best teacher but that unfortunately only comes with time. We still need understanding and patience though. We can still totally get things wrong no matter how old or experienced in life we are. I think being wise means you read between the lines, focus on the possibilities and keep on learning. You never actually outgrow it! We actually never really get there!

Our control issues may get us to work on time, but are not guarantees we get to keep the job. They may keep us eating well and exercising but do not guarantee our good health.  They may have made us good communicators but don't guarantee everyone wants to hear or do what we say. Unrealistic expectations lead to disappointments in ourselves and others.

Life will become divided into befores and afters. There is no wrong or right way. The path is different for each of us and so is the pace. It may be crazy, haphazard paving or evenly laid brickwork. There are no shortcuts, the right path is rarely easy however it is set.

Wisdom begins in wonder. Some people are wise, some people are otherwise!? Every next level of life will demand a different version of you! Be teachable, there are so many possibilities. Who you were, who you are and who you will be are three different people.

What we are sharing, are our interpretations. They vary greatly. Our Lessons in life will continue to be repeated until well after they are learned.

So what is wisdom? I'd have to say, it is the ability to question more than answer. There are no set answers. Knowledge is not just knowing, it is needing to know.

Do you remember being in school and covering your work so no one else could copy?! Maybe you had it wrong! We are always learning and you may not always be right! It is accepting and recognising that being wrong is one of the biggest reasons we carry on. It keeps us trying! We often need help.

Understanding does not always mean being understood! Wisdom is not just the accumulation of knowledge but sharing that knowledge wisely for the benefit of those around us.

I know the older I'm getting the more questions I have and the more confused I am! Am I older and wiser? I don't think so, I've got a long way to go yet, but I'm working on it...
